Letter from President regarding fees

December 2, 2009

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Though the World Series just ended a month ago, it is already time to begin planning for the exciting 2010 Dubuque Little League season!  We remain the community’s largest and most viable open enrollment baseball league.  We have continued to grow in number and, by all accounts, in quality.

This year we are featuring an electronic registration process.  This system will allow Little League officials and coaches the opportunity to have important contact information for your children more readily available. A link to registration is available on the home page.

We will maintain a presence at the 2010 Greater Dubuque Sports and Recreation Festival on January 23 and will have laptop computers available for registration.  We will also provide different sizes of uniforms for show.

You will notice that league fees have increased. The registration fee comprises almost all of the revenues that directly pay our expenses.  Our main expenses are field rental, uniforms, equipment, and insurance and these have almost doubled in total during the last three years.

It is the board’s wish that only a small percentage of our sponsorship revenue go toward operating expenses. We hope to save these monies for future and inevitable capital improvements to our fields and to bolster the net worth of our scholarship monies available for families in need.   Thus, the bulk of our operating expenses must be derived from registration fees and fundraising efforts.

We wish to assure you the board is doing what they can to minimize annual operating expenses.  We have placed our uniforms up for bid to receive the lowest price possible and have adopted new internal rules concerning equipment and other purchases.

There is a scholarship fund available to help defray the registration fee for those individuals who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  Please contact a board member with questions on the procedures.

Thank you again for your commitment to Dubuque Little League.  We look forward to a great 2010 season!

Sincerely,

Matt Garrett, Ph.D.

Dubuque Little League President

Annual meeting and officer elections

The annual public meeting of the Dubuque Little League Board of Directors including the election of new officers will take place at the Clarke College Atrium on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 7:00 pm. Election of officers will take place. All league parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

2009 Fall Ball

Good evening,

Fall baseball for boys and girls playing minors next year is moving forward. A minimum of three clinics will be held and will begin on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m. We will go every Saturday in September and then go week by week according to interest and weather. I personally am unavailable on October 3 if the Cardinals are still in the playoff race since I have tickets that weekend.

The clinic will introduce children to pitching, facing live pitching from peers, the use of hardballs, and the rules of minors. The clinics are geared toward kids entering minors for the first time next year, but kids who played this year and will return are also invited. The clinics will involve stationwork and the plan is to play simulated games if there is enough interest.

The suggested donation is $15, which guarantees a T-shirt. No child will be turned away based on inability to pay as the league will find other avenues. Checks should be made out to Dubuque Little League. Kids should bring their gloves and boys should wear a cup now that we are using the hard balls. All other equipment will be provided.

All children must complete the attached registration form and return it to me at mcgarr613@msn.com or at 2209 St. John Drive, Dubuque, IA 52002 before Labor Day.

All children who did not compete on a Dubuque Little League Pee Wee or Minors team must complete a medical release form, available at http://dubuquelittleleague.berserkerproductions.com/Medical_Release_Form.pdf

Please forward this message to any of your Pee Wee players advancing to Minors. If you prefer not to, please let me know so I can contact them.

Also, volunteers remain greatly appreciated, so just let me know. There are bound to be growing pains since this is the first time we are doing this, but I remain encouraged this is a nice option for those wanting to play more baseball.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Matt

Dubuque Little League Fundraiser

In an effort to raise some additional funds for Little League I have organized a Tupperware Party/Sales effort. Tupperware will give back 40% to organizations that have a Tupperware “Party”!

Details… On Tuesday, Sept 8 we will meet from 6-8 at the Hampton Inn (by Target). Kris, the Tupperware consultant, will be there to show the pieces we will be selling/purchasing. There is a special brochure that we use: http://siteimpressions.com/resources9/fundraising/TWFRCatalog09.pdf . There will be a supply of brochures for people to take.

All orders would need to be in by September 25. What is nice is that since the catalog is on-line, you can also email people and start taking the orders!

I hope to see as many of you there as possible. We don’t do much to raise money for Little League and I thought this would be a good thing to try. Please let me know if you will be able to stop by and help! I can be reached at jamie.specht@clarke.edu or 563-663-3866.

Thanks, Jamie Specht
